Desktop Water Filters

Water Filters come in a variety of designs some of the most common and those favored by apartment dwellers are those that need little or no intrusive  installation.

The water filters that fall into this actegory are the gravity filter Mineral post and the 1stage, 2 stage and 3 stage desktop or counter top water filters.

Counter Top Water filters

by their description are those that attach to a tap or faucet by means on a screw on adaptor through which the feed water flows .

The Destop or Counter Top water filters will take a combination of the filters above . The water filters look like these below

 

A Single Stage Water filter cartridge
5 micron sediment filter to remove larger particles than 5 microns such as dirt, sand, leaves, rust etc

GAC or granular activated carbon which removes chlorine, tastes and odours, herbicides, pesticides and the like
the rubber washer at the top of the filter fits onto a protrusion in the housing at the top which properly seats the filter allowing water to flow in the correct direction only.

KDF-55 Filter which is designed specifically for removing or reducing chlorine and water-soluble heavy metals. It controls scale, bacteria and algae, even in hot water. The process medium recently received NSF International Certification and is certified by NSF to NSF/ANSI Standard 42

    
Note the KDF which is gold in colour and seperated from the carbon. This is the correct way for the filters to be packed . The KDF enhances the GAC in this way maximizing the absorbancy of the GAC. Usually the ratio of GAC to KDF is 8:1
Cheaper filters mix the ingredients together which diminishes the ability of both substances to be effective
